There’s one guaranteed way to end up disappointed: stay silent about what you really want.
Speak up.
If you’re craving some alone time, say so.
If you’re tired of cooking, ask for a break.
Need help in the garden? Time for a nap? Let the people around you know.
Silent hopes have let me down more times than I can count. Expectations without communication almost always lead to frustration.
And here’s a little reminder as we are in Mother’s Day/Father’s Day season: there’s nothing magical about one day of the year. If you’re loved in the middle of the mess, the ordinary, the Tuesday-night chaos—that’s the real thing. The kind of love that shows up in the little moments? That’s worth more than a perfectly planned “special day.”
So don’t keep quiet. Don’t wait for someone to read your mind.
Speak up. Say what you need.
You’re worth asking.
